The weather is heating up and its time to check on those Terrariums
Generally speaking we say that Terrariums are pretty self sustaining but you want to take a few precautions to ensure they stay happy through the summer months.
Firstly and most importantly be sure to move your Terrarium out of any direct sun or heat, conservatories and South facing windowsills should be avoided throughout the year but especially from April to September when the sun is at its strongest. Direct sun and heat can cause your plants to wilt and die, it will also increase the temperature inside of the glass causing a huge build up of moisture and humidity which may lead to overwatering for some of your plants. If you feel like there is too much moisture you can always just take the cork off of your Terrarium and let it dry out for a few hours or wipe off the excess condensation. If you can't get in with your hand then our Sponge Brush or piece of kitchen roll on a pair of Long Tweezers.
Even if your Terrarium is somewhere out of any direct sun it is a good idea to monitor the inside temperature, take the cork off and pop your hand in, you will notice the temperature increase. If you are worried that its too warm you can always leave the cork off and give a few sprays of cool water or pop a singular ice cube into the Terrarium on the moss.
But remember, even if you loose one or two plants over the hot summer season, you can always replace them with new ones! Moss can be rehydrated with warm water like a sponge and glass can be cleaned!
Any questions or refurbs needed though we will be happy to help!
