Anya Hindmarch Return to Nature Giant Terrarium Install - October 2021
To launch Anya Hindmarch’s Return to Nature collection we were tasked to create our biggest Terrarium to date. Working alongside The Lost Boys who built the glass and Metal structure, we planted a home for 3 of the bags from the collection, which were created to biodegrade, compost and return to the earth, nourishing the soil at the end of it’s useful life.
Using over 950 litres of compost and a selected of plants that we knew would thrive in this humid environment we spent 2 days landscaping, planting and nurturing this giant Terrarium, we created distressed platforms from a selection of chairs for the bags to sit on and the plants to slowly (or quickly we later found out!) grow over and around. The front of the store also had to mirror this wild and overgrown feel so after the painters has worked their magic on distressing the shop front we went about planting in all the cracks and guttering with much hardier plants that would survive the British autumn elements, such as Ivy, grasses and Meuhlenbeckia.
We visited the store every week throughout the period that the project was live, watering the plants on the outside and tending to the Terrarium which honestly was working as every happy terrarium should and actually hardly needed any watering or interference from us at all!
